BENTON, Tenn. (AP) — Police say a van hit a horse-drawn buggy on a Tennessee road, killing a teenage girl.

Tennessee Highway Patrol Lt. John Harmon told WRCB-TV (http://bit.ly/1TrLVFO) that the 13-year-old girl died Wednesday after being airlifted on Tuesday from the crash scene in Polk County.

A highway patrol report says the van's driver, 28-year-old Jason Shelton, was traveling at a high rate of speed when he struck the buggy the girl had been traveling in. The report says the buggy's driver, 50-year-old Daniel Wanner, was hauling corn.

Shelton has been charged with several counts including drunken driving, leaving the scene of an accident and vehicle assault by intoxication.
