BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — A 33-year-old western New York man has been indicted for murder in connection with the shooting death of another man.

Daren Alexis, of Buffalo, is charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He's accused of killing 26-year-old Jadero Kelley, also of Buffalo, last August. Kelley was shot on a city street in early afternoon and died from his injuries.

Alexis pleaded not guilty on Monday in state Supreme Court and is being held without bail in the Erie County Jail. He faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison if convicted on all charges.

It could not immediately be determined if Alexis has an attorney who could comment on the charges.
