Some lawmakers and residents of Utica are planning to picket this upcoming weekend, asking area motels not to allow sex offenders to take up residence there.

But if not there then where?  Should convicted sex offenders be protected by the same equal housing opportunity laws that protect all Americans?  Or, because of their crimes, should they be forced to live somewhere else?  There are laws governing the distance between their residences and places children frequent, like schools and day care facilities, but should there be additional restrictions on their housing?
