WILMINGTON, N.Y. (AP) — Whiteface Mountain in the Adirondacks is set to start making snow for the winter.

Snow guns are to start up on Sunday as the former Olympic venue prepares to open for the winter ski season on Friday.

It looks like Adirondack ski resorts could get an assist from nature, with snow in the forecast for early in the week in the Lake Placid region.

Whiteface is run by the state Olympic Regional Development Authority.
