The Yankees got off to a good start in Cleveland on Thursday night and were able to fend off a late rally to avoid a three-game sweep, beating the Indians 8-6 to end a five-game losing streak.

Brian McCann hit a three-run homer in the first inning and Stephen Drew added a solo-shot in the second to help the Yankees set the tone. After building a 7-2 lead in the sixth, Cleveland drew closer, scoring twice off Nathan Eovaldi to make it a 7-4 game.

Eovaldi (12-2) didn't make it out of the inning, by the Yankees bullpen did enough to secure the win, Eovaldi's 12th of the season.

With Toronto winning it's eleventh straight, New York remained a 1/2 game back in the AL East. The Yankees go north of the border to open a three-game series with the Blue Jays on Friday night (7:07 pm). David Price (11-4), who shutout the Yankees in the Bronx last weekend, is scheduled to face Ivan Nova (4-4).
