Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente and Kids Oneida hosted the Mohawk Valley Regional Youth Justice Summit at Mohawk Valley Community College on Thursday.

The Mohawk Valley Regional Youth Justice Team has been conducting an extensive needs assessment in regards to the juvenile justice system in the region.

The summit was attended by individuals working with youth involved, or at risk of being involved, in the juvenile justice system.

Katie Weldon, Clinical Director with Kids Oneida, says the ultimate goal of the initiative is to improve outcomes for youth and keep kids out of the juvenile justice system while engaging parents in the process.

Thursday's summit was the first of six to be held across the Mohawk Valley Region.
