October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the YWCA Mohawk Valley will be holding a number of events next month.

Take Back the Night rallies will take place in Utica and Rome:

  • Utica TBTN: October 16, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., march begins at YWCA main office at 7 Rutger Park and ends at Utica City Hall.
  • Rome TBTN: October 18, 6:00 to 8:00 pm., at Rome City Hall on North Washington Street

The YWCA's 10th annual Reclaiming Freedom Celebration will honor Oneida County Sheriff Rob Maciol, Rome Police Chief Kevin Beach and Utica Police Chief Mark Williams for their work in ending domestic violence in Oneida County.

The celebration will be held on October 20th at Valentino's in New Hartford.

And the Purple Ribbon campaign will take place throughout October.

Participating businesses will be selling paper Purple Ribbons for $1 and displaying them at their locations.
