Albany Teen Accused Of Stabbing Classmate Turns Himself In

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — An upstate New York teen who police say stabbed a classmate several times during a fight on school grounds earlier this week has turned himself in to local authorities.

The 17-year-old LaSalle School student was charged with second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the attack at the Albany residential school for troubled youths.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges in Albany City Court on Thursday after surrendering to police earlier that morning.

School spokesman Paul Larrabee says the fight between the two students broke out just after 10 a.m. Wednesday while they were switching classes.

The 16-year-old victim sustained deep puncture wounds to his abdomen and torso. He was treated at Albany Medical Center Hospital.

A preliminary hearing has been set for Nov. 22.
