A woman who recently visited an inmate at the Oneida County Jail has been arrested on charges of promoting prison contraband. According to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office the incident occurred on December 23rd, 2016.

The incident happened in the visitation area of the jail. It is alleged that 22-year-old Sara Brown of Utica passed an unknown substance to 24-year-old Ako Burrell. Burrell is currently being held for a felony assault charge. A corrections officer who witnessed the encounter confronted Burell, who then attempted to evade the officer. In an effort to detain Burrell, the officer was injured.

Sara Brown is facing a misdemeanor charge for promoting prison contraband in the second degree. She is expected to appear in the Town of Whitestown Court at a later date. Ako Burell will also appear in Whitestown Court for the new charge.
