Binghamton Schools Ask For Capital Improvement Funds

The Binghamton City School District says proposed capital improvements won’t impact the local tax rate.

The district is asking voters to approve $28 million for expansion, infrastructure, accessibility and technology and $6.7 million for energy efficient items like LED lighting and solar panels.

The district recently outlined its plans and have scheduled a public hearing for November 27 in the third floor Community Room at the Columbus School on Hawley Street.

Officials say $23 million for the project would come from New York State funding with $4.6 million coming from the district capital reserve fund.  The district would bond for $6.7 million for the energy upgrade component.

The vote is December 5 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.  The BCSD proposal must win 60% of the votes to move forward.
