Brindisi Sponsors Legislation To Speed Up Medical Marijuana Program
Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi is sponsoring legislation that would expedite the medical marijuana program in New York state for patients suffering from certain medical conditions.
The news comes on the same day a New York Mills girl visited the State Capitol to tell lawmakers that speeding up the process for use of medical marijuana would help her and countless others.
12-year old Mackenzie Kulawy suffers from a rare form of Epilepsy.
Brindisi says many children in New York, including Mackenzie, would benefit significantly from a fast-tracked medical marijuana program.
“Patients like Mackenzie are suffering needlessly because of some bureaucratic hurdles,” Brindisi said. “Since the last time I met with Mackenzie last year, her condition has worsened. Her seizures are more frequent. There are many others like her in New York that would benefit greatly from medical marijuana, and that’s why I am supporting legislation that would begin the emergency medical marijuana access program.”
Governor Cuomo signed medical marijuana legislation into law last July, but the state is not on track to begin the program until the end of next year at the earliest.
