Democratic Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi will not be entering the 22nd Congressional District race.

He says after giving a run for Congress serious consideration over the past several weeks and discussing it with family and close friends, he's decided not to run and continue his work in the Assembly.

Brindisi says being a member of Congress would be a great honor, but he's decided the best way to help the Mohawk Valley move forward is to remain a member of the state Assembly.

Brindisi says this is not a decision he takes lightly.  He says he's truly humbled by the tremendous encouragement I have received from many people in the 22nd District asking me to consider a run for Congress.

Republican Congressman Richard Hanna will be stepping down at the end of the year.

Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney and George Phillips of Broome County, both Republicans, plan to run for Hanna's seat.

Former Oneida County Legislator, David Gordon, who is a Democrat, has also his candidacy to replace Hanna.
