Washington, DC (WIBX) - The Federal Bureau of Investigation is telling computer users that they have until Monday to double-check computers for malicious software, or "malware," or rick being booted off of the Internet.

Last year "Operation Ghost Click" uncovered a computer virus that re-routes infected machines attempting to access the World Wide Web.  It was spread by hackers to an estimated four million computers worldwide.

The FBI is directing people to a special site to check their machines at www.dcwg.org but suggests that users contact a computer professional for assistance if they suspect that they may be at risk.

Temporary servers that have been addressing the problem will be shut down on Monday, July 9, 2012, and infected computers will not be able to access the Internet.
