Albany, NY (WIBX) - The State Division of Criminal Justice Services says crime in New York State declined 4.4%  during the first six months of the year.A report released today shows reductions were reported statewide in each of the seven index crime categories, including murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault and burglary.

The drop in crime was led by a double-digit decrease in murders.

Today's release of New York crime statistics coincides with the annual release of the FBI's Crime in the United States publication, which details crime trends across the country.
