Ed Sabol, Founder Of NFL Films Dies At 98

If you've ever watched and enjoyed football bloopers, highlights or any creation from NFL Films, you may not know it, but Ed Sabol is the man to thank.

Sabol, who founded NFL films in 1962 and brought NFL fans new ways to enjoy the game like microphones on coaches and players, highlights set to popular music, and of course bloopers, died Monday in his home in Arizona at the age of 98.

Sabol was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2011 after more than 30 years at the helm of NFL Films, where he made history by paying the NFL $3,000(a little more than $23,000 in 2015 money) for the rights to film the 1962 title game between Vince Lombardi's Green Bay Packers and the New York Football Giants.

During Sabol's years with the company, NFL Films won 52 Emmy awards and literally changed the way fans watched and paid attention to professional football.

Ed Sabol served as President of NFL films until 1985 when he handed the job - and company over to his son Steve, who died in 2012 at the age of 69.
