A local Marine's remains are back in his hometown after 73 years.

A funeral procession brought the remains of Pvt. Frank Penna, a Marine who was killed in a World War II battle back to his hometown of Canastota, NY on Thursday.

Pvt. Penna's remains were identified after they were found buried in an unmarked grave on the Tarawa atoll in the Pacific.

Penna was one of the 1,000 Marines killed in a November 1943 battle that captured the island from the Japanese.

Pvt. Penna's remains are set to be buried in his family's cemetery plot in Canastota.
