Sergeant Dominic Licari is home from the war, World War II, that is.

State Senator James Seward will present Licari with the Liberty Medal.  The Liberty Medal is the New York State Senate's highest honor, and will be awarded to Licari posthumously in recognition of the fact that he was willing to sacrifice his life for his country and the cause of freedom and world peace.

Governor Andrew Cuomo has ordered all flags flown at half mast to honor him, along with the state's service members, and those who have been killed in action or have died in combat zones.

Licari was a World War II gunner whose A-20G Havoc Bomber crashed into a mountain in New Guinea in 1944, two years after he had joined the United States Army Air Forces.

The memorial service for Sgt. Dominick Licari will be held at 10:00am at the Iocovozzi Funeral Home at 203 Second Avenue in Frankfort, New York.
