Oriskany, NY (WIBX) - Deputy Kurt Wyman is being honored as a "honey" of a guy on the anniversary of his death.

In June of 2010 the Oneida County Sheriff's Deputy provided a police escort for a queen bee and her hive as elementary school students at Kernan Elementary anxiously awaited their arrival.

Now encased in a glass case, the hive of about 15,000 bees is working on making about seventy-five pounds of honey a year.

To commemorate Deputy Kurt Wyman's part in the event, the hive is being dedicated to his memory next week.

Sixty Kernan Elementary students will be joined by the Central New York Beekeepers, Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente, and the Oneida County Sheriff's Office in the ceremony scheduled to take place on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 10:00am. The event takes place at Cornell Cooperative Extension at 121 Second Street in Oriskany, New York.
