Josh Allen Will Play In Preseason Opener Against The Chicago Bears
It's something that a lot of Bills fans get nervous hearing. Josh Allen will play in the first preseason game of the year.
Training camp will end today and then the Buffalo Bills will officially be in preseason mode. They've got games coming up against the Chicago Bears (8/10), the Pittsburgh Steelers (8/17), and then the Carolina Panthers (8/24) before opening the regular season at home on September 8th against the Arizona Cardinals.
Josh Allen is a "go" for Saturday's game
After speculation about whether Josh Allen would or wouldn't play on Saturday, we found out today that he and the rest of the starters would. The Bills announced a list of players who would not play and it included:
- S Mike Edwards
- S Cole Bishop
- LB Nick Morrow
- WR Chase Claypool
- OL Travis Clayton
- RB Ty Johnson
- LB Eddie Ulofoshio
- WR Justin Shorter
- DT DaQuan Jones
- DT Casey Toohill
- WR Mack Hollins
- WR KJ Hamler
Toohill, Hollins and Hamler were all added to the injury list following Wednesday's practice at St. John Fisher College.
How much will the starters play?
It's normally concerning to fans to see their starters getting time in preseason games because they don't matter and an injury in one of those games can be costly. If you're one of those fans, the good news is that coach McDermott has said that they will probably only play roughly one quarter on Saturday.
Why is he playing starters?
McDermott explained that the reason he's playing them is to get them up to game speed. It's definitely a different feel when you're in a game as opposed to a practice against your own guys. He claims that the game speed is something that he wants them to get ready for.
"It's getting them ramped up and ready to go for the season. It's an important step. Hard to simulate the speed of the game. And so getting through that in preseason is important." - Sean McDermott
The Bills will take the field at Highmark Stadium on Saturday at 1pm.
