Kaepernick, 49ers Run Through Panthers 27-10
The San Francisco 49ers are headed to a third straight NFC Championship Game.
Colin Kaepernick led the 49ers to an impressive 23-10 win over the Panthers in Carolina on Sunday, throwing for 196 yards while throwing a touchdown pass and running for another.
Anquan Boldin accounted for eight of his QB's 15 completions for 136 yards. Tight End Vernon Davis had one catch for one yard - a back corner end zone reception that was first ruled out of bounds, but overturned on review to give the 49ers a 13-10 lead in the closing seconds of the first half.
Cam Newton started well, including a 31-yard TD pass to Steve Smith early in the second quarter, but seemed to loose rhythm in the second half. He finished with 267 yards passing, one touchdown and two interceptions. He also ran for 54, but was sacked five times by the 49ers' defense.
Ted Ginn Jr., Smith, Brandon LaFell and Greg Olsen all had four catches apiece. Ginn has the most yardage, 104, and had a nice punt return to setup Smith's TD catch.
Waiting for San Francisco is division foe Seattle who will host the NFC title game after a 23-15 win over the New Orleans Saints on Saturday.
