Riverside, CA, (WIBX) - Legendary rhythm and blues singer Etta James has died. Her doctor recently announced the 73-year-old entertainer was terminally ill suffering from leukemia, kidney disease and dementia.

The singer of the enduring hit "At Last" was born in Los Angeles in 1938.  According to her biography, James developed her singing skills in a church choir. She recorded her first commercially successful record in 1955.  Rolling Stone Magazine ranked James at number 22 on their list of 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. During her long career, James collected six Grammys and 17 Blues Music Awards. She was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, the Blues Hall of Fame in 2001 and the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999.
