New Hartford, NY (WIBX) - Why lay on the beach for Sprink Break when you could be helping others? It seems to the attitude of several area Girl Scouts who, again this year, gave up their break to lend a helping hand.

"We wanted to give up our Spring Break to help those people that really needed our assistance," Anna Antonik said. "We built wall structures and landscaped."

Antonik was part of a group of ten local girls on the Girl Scouts Disaster Relief Team which traveled to Florida to help rebuild homes damaged by flooding earlier this year. Many of these same girls, including Antonik, were in Louisiana last year helping rebuild homes damaged by Katrina, she said.

Antonik says she valued the expriences because it taught her the importance of teamwork, and brought hope to people who really needed it.
