Michael Vasquez is dropping out of the race for Congress.

In an interview with WIBX on Wednesday evening he said that he now believes his continued candidacy would have been detrimental to the conservative cause and would have split the vote in favor of incumbent Richard Hanna.

He said that he was not asked by any candidate or party to step down as a candidate for the 22nd Congressional District, adding that he will do whatever he can to help the campaign of Claudia Tenney.  "I believe she is the best choice," he said.  "I will do whatever I can to help her."

Both Vasquez and conservative candidate Michael Kicinski spoke with WIBX First News with Keeler in the Morning on Thursday, March 27, 2014 to discuss their candidacy and the entry of Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney into the congressional primary.  Although it was Vasquez's first run at the primary, 2014 marks Kicinski's second challenge to Hanna.
