National Distance Running HOF Announces 2012 Class
Utica, NY (WIBX) - A large crowd gathered at the F-X Matt Brewery for the announcement of this year's inductees to the National Distance Running Hall of Fame.
This year's class includes Horace Ashenfelter, Glenn Cunningham and Jacqueline Hansen.
Ashenfelter won a gold medal at the 1952 Olympic games and is the only American to hold a world record in the steeplechase.
Cunningham, who was severely burned as a child, would set the indoor mile world record in 1938 with a time of 4:04.
Hansen ran during the 1970s and set records by breaking the 2-hour 40-minute woman's marathon barrier in 1975.
The official ceremony is July 7th at Mohawk Valley Community College during the Boilermaker Expo.
