ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York state is purchasing just over 13,000 bullet-proof vests for police officers across 192 jurisdictions.

The $808,000 in funding for the vests is being allocated through the federal Department of Justice.

New York City tops the list of jurisdictions. It will receive 8,569 vests, while Long Island will receive nearly 1,500.

Elsewhere, western New York will receive 574 bullet-proof vests; the Hudson Valley, 569; Rochester and the Fingers Lakes Region, 419; central New York, 418; Westchester, 356; the Capital Region in and around the state capital of Albany, 232; the Southern Tier, 224; the Mohawk Valley, 145; and northern New York, 22.

U.S. Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand and Charles Schumer announced the funding on Friday.
