Albany, NY (WIBX) - The New York State Parks system is days away from clearing the smoke engulfing a new policy.

Prior to issuing tickets for those who smoke in designated non-smoking areas, the agency is required to publish a Regulatory Impact Statement, which includes public comments.

Until that public comment period and report are complete, State Park Police will remind smokers of the policy, noting that voluntary compliance has worked in the past.

Unless posted, smoking is allowed in other areas within the park system.
