Members of the Cuomo Administration and the National Organization for Women of New York are pushing to end child marriage in New York.

Office of General Services Commissioner RoAnn Destito and NOW President Sonia Ossorio were at the State Capitol in Albany today to discuss Governor Cuomo's legislation to raise the age of consent to marry in New York from 14 to 18.

Under current law, children as young as 14 can get married in New York state.

Destito says the Governor's legislation would strengthen protections for minors by preventing child marriage and increase penalties for those who issue marriage licenses to anyone under 18 years old.
