HUDSON, N.Y. (AP) — Police in an upstate New York city have made several arrests following a series of shootings.

Hudson Police Chief Edward Moore says a raid on Wednesday led to the arrests of eight people in connection with the recent violence. A 28-year-old woman was shot in the shoulder on Aug. 12. The following night on the same block someone opened fire on the backyard of a home, wounding a woman and two young children.

Police believe the fatal shooting of 31-year-old Kevin Whitening on Tuesday is also tied to the other acts of violence. Moore says police believe the shootings are targeted violence that stem from "two factions that haven't gotten along for a long time."

Police say drugs were recovered during the Wednesday raid. Police continue to investigate.
