Rabid Bat Found In Herkimer County

Herkimer County Public Health is confirming a case of a rabid animal in the county.

A bat that was sent to the Wadsworth Lab in Albany for testing was confirmed to be infected with the rabies virus.

Health officials say a family is receiving rabies post exposure treatment after the animal was found in their home.

They say if a bat is found in your home, it should be captured and sent for testing.
