Utica Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi (D-NY119) announced his bid for Tenney's congressional seat in June of last year. Tenney is in her first term after being elected in 2016, after Republican Congressman Richard Hanna retired.

The 22nd Congressional District in Upstate New York includes Oneida, Herkimer and Madison counties, as well as Chenango, Cortland, Broome, Tioga and Oswego counties. Ballotpedia has identified NY-22 as a race to watch. The Cook Political Report is calling the Tenney-Brindisi race a toss up, meaning either party has a chance to win. WIBX has reached out to Congresswoman Tenney and is awaiting a response.
