Rome Man Sentenced In Shooting Death Of Infant

ROME, N.Y. (AP) — An 18-year-old central New York man has been sentenced to 1 ½ to 3 years in prison for accidentally shooting a 7-month-old baby to death in his apartment.

Henry Bartle of Rome was sentenced Monday in Oneida County Court. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child in February for the death of Nathaniel Hitt, his girlfriend's infant.

Bartle told police he was cleaning his shotgun on Nov. 28 after installing a new grip, and the weapon accidentally discharged when he stood up.

Judge Barry Donalty granted Bartle youthful offender status, which means his record will be sealed to the public.
