The Center for Family Life and Recovery’s Heroin Opiate Education Program is continuing its effort to combat opioid and heroin use in the community.

New RX Med Return units will be placed at various locations throughout Oneida County.

Cassandra Sheets, CEO of the Center for Family Life and Recovery, says the units provide a safe and accessible way to dispose of unwanted prescription medication.

Sheets says data shows 80 percent of new heroin users are coming to heroin after having abused prescription opioids.

The Med Return Units will be placed at the Oneida County Sheriff's Office and at the Utica, Rome, Kirkland, Boonville, Camden, Sherrill and Oriskany Police Departments.  They will also be available at the Trenton and Waterville Municipal Buildings.

The Center for Family Life and Recovery’s Heroin Opiate Education Program is funded with $50,000 from Oneida County.
