Seven People Killed After Tractor Trailer Accident In Truxton

An accident that took place during the a late afternoon thunderstorm has claimed the lives of seven people.

A trailer, believed to be carrying crushed cars, came unhitched from a tractor trailer in the Cortland County town of Truxton at about 6:00pm on Wednesday, May 29, 2013.  It slid across the road and slammed into an oncoming minivan.

There were eight passengers in the van.  Seven of them were killed.  The one survivor is hospitalized.  The two people in the truck were apparently not injured.

Route 13 in Truxton reopened shortly after one Thursday morning.
