Utica, NY (WIBX) - The executive director of the Central New York Veteran's Outreach Center is taking a leave of absence due to a pending military deployment.

Sergeant Vincent Scalise is preparing to be sent to Afghanistan sometime this fall, according to a release from the Utica Center for Development, Inc - CNY Veteran's Outreach Center.

He says he'll be taking time to focus on his family and prepare his soliders to ensure a safe return.

Scalise says the nonfit's mission will still be focusing on those currently serving and thier families, and is asking for continued support of the Veteran's Outreach Center.

The Center's Chief Financial Officer, John Karwacki, will be taking over as interim Executive Director.

Scalise's statement: "At this time I feel it is most important for me to step away from the CNYVOC so that I may focus on my family which will always come first. I will also be taking this time to prepare my Soldiers to ensure a safe return for them at the end of this mission. I appreciate all the support and assistance this community has given me over the past three and a half years to get this Center up and running so that we may provide those who have served this great Nation so honorably. I ask that in my absence everyone not lose sight of those that are still currently serving and their families who need our help more than anyone, and to continue their generous support of the CNYVOC because we still have a long journey ahead of us before we reach completion.”
