Whitesboro, NY (WIBX) - A local company is lobbying congress in an effort to stay competitive within the military aviation industry. TECT Power--based in Whitesboro--is looking to Congressman Richard Hanna to help them change a provision of the Berry Amendment that currently prohibits them from purchasing certain metals from outside the U.S.

Hanna, who is in support of changing the law says it creates an unfair disadvantage. "They're concerned about the Berry Amendment, which limits their ability to buy this widely--the raw materials widely throughout the world for Department of Defense products. So, we have signed on to an amendment that will change that will change that and allow them to be competitive anywhere in the world," Hanna said.

TECT Power manufactures Titanium alloy products such as blades, compressors and turbines for military aircraft engines. If lawmakers are successful in amending the law, officials say it will allow TECT Power to purchase its raw materials for about 40-percent cheaper from countries like Russia and China. In 1941 Congress passed the Berry Amendment to promote the purchase of certain U.S. goods.
