Two Herkimer County residents are being treated after being bitten by a rabid fox.

Herkimer County Public Health says the gray fox found in the Town of Frankfort has tested positive for the rabies virus.

Officials say residents should consider all wild animals to be potentially rabid and any bite by an animal should be reported to Herkimer County Public Health.

They're also reminding residents to make sure their pets are up to date on the rabies vaccines.

A cow in the Town of Stark recently tested positive for rabies.
