Utica Common Council Says No To Asphalt Plant
The Utica Common Council voted 6-to-2 on Wednesday night against the sale of the former Matt Petroleum site on Leland Avenue to Riccelli Northern of Syracuse.
Riccelli wanted to build a concrete and asphalt plant at the location.
More than 50 Utica residents spoke out against the sale. Councilwoman Samantha Colosimo-Testa says the big turnout of residents opposed to the sale made a difference.
The Council also voted to override Mayor Robert Palmieri's veto of a 15-year street paving plan.
Residents will vote on the proposal in November.
