Utica residents have said "yes" to a referendum that will increase the amount of money the city spends on paving city streets from $2 million to $5 million a year.
The plan was approved by a vote of 7,021 to 4,763 on Tuesday.

Councilman Joe Marino says $5 million a year for paving is where the city needs to be.

The referendum was part of a $75 million plan introduced by the Utica Common Council in July to pave all 210 miles of city streets over the next 15 years.

The council’s plan could bring a possible 0.74 percent tax levy increase a year.
