Cooperstown Man Dies After Driving Car Into Otsego Lake

A Cooperstown man is dead after driving his vehicle into Otsego Lake in Cooperstown.

It happened on Thursday night.

According to the Otsego County Sheriff's Office, 75-year old John Smirk drove his car off the boat launch ramp on Fair Street.

A Cooperstown Police officer and an Otsgeo County Sheriff's Deputy suffered minor injuries while pulling Smirk from the vehicle.

The cause of death remains under investigation.
