Fort Drum, NY (WIBX) - On this Memorial day, a somber reminder of the sacrifice of our men and women in the Armed Forces.

Officials at Fort Drum say one of their own was killed on Friday in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan.

Private First Class John Johnson, 28, of the 10th Mountain Division's 3rd Bridgade Combat Team died from wounds he sustained when his unit was attacked by insurgents.

Johnson, who is originally from Arizona, received many honors including the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
