Albany, NY (WIBX) - New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo issued the following statement today in honor of Memorial Day.

"Today we honor the memory of those who lost their lives in the service of our country. Memorial Day is a time to reflect upon the sacrifices made by members of the armed services and express our gratitude for the protection they continue to provide. During this time of war, we must always keep in mind the families who will forever be separated from their loved ones. We mourn their loss and honor the sacrifice of heroes of all generations. On behalf of all New Yorkers, I would like to thank the brave men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces, both from New York and across the nation, for their dedicated service."

Congressman Richard Hanna also issued a statement today in recognition of American service men and women:

“Today we honor the fallen. Memorial Day is a time to recognize those who’ve served and protected our nation and our freedom but never returned home. To serve one’s country is among the most noble and selfless acts available to man, particularly during times of war.

“I commend all those who gave themselves to this nation in combat and we remember those who are no longer with us. You do your family, your friends and this nation great honor with your service. We will never forget.”
