The air traffic control tower at Griffiss International Airport in Rome will remain open for now.

The Federal Aviation Administration will delay the closure of 149 air traffic control towers at smaller airports until mid-June.

The towers were due to begin closing as early as Sunday, but mounting legal challenges prompted the delay.

Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente is hoping to keep the tower at Griffiss open without federal funding.
