The United Way of Broome County and Vestal Rotary Club are hoping to put a little more “boo” in Halloween for area children.

The United Way says parents can spend $20 to $40 or even more for new Halloween trappings for their "little monsters" but the idea of a Costume Exchange can help

Now through October 6, people can bring clean, gently used children’s Halloween costumes to the United Way in Vestal to swap for another costume.  Each resident donating a costume will be given a Swap Voucher with a limit of one ticket per child in the family.  Extra costumes, however will be accepted.

The Halloween Costume Exchange and Autumn Celebration happens October 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with participants bringing their vouchers to allow them to choose a new-to-you costume for each voucher.  There will also be treats, crafts, cider and donuts at the swap.

Meanwhile, residents who maybe have some costumes and grown children that don’t need them, can donate the items to the exchange to help increase the selection for participating children.

Any costumes left after the swap will be donated to charities for other children in the community.

The United Way offices are located at 101 South Jensen Road Vestal.
