Representative Richard Hanna has been named a 2013 'Champion for Children' by the First Focus Campaign for Children.
First Focus chose Hanna because of his work introducing, co-sponsoring and voting for legislation to meet childrens' needs.

Some of the initiatives Hanna supports are early childhood education, funding for pediatric research, improving school safety and making healthy school lunches available.

"Our children hold the key to ensuring that the best days lie ahead in Upstate New York and in this nation," Hanna said. "I will continue to support policies to make sure our youth are healthy and academically prepared to succeed throughout their lives. Properly educating and supporting our children is the best way to keep America globally competitive and to rebuild the middle class in central New York and the Southern Tier."

Hanna is one of just three House Republicans to receive the honor.
