A high speed rail line is being proposed between Texas and Georgia.

The City Council in Birmingham, Alabama met this week to discuss the possibility of rail construction.

The line would go from Dallas to Atlanta with stops in Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi.

WBRC Fox 6 News in Birmingham reports that Richard Finley of The Finley Group, who has been pushing for the service since the 1990's, says that the Federal Railroad Administration is ready to provide funding for a high speed railway.

Opposition to the project has been voiced, and even supporters say that all five states involved - Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas - need to get on board and approve the project before plans can move forward.

The proposed project would take approximately ten years to complete.
