The Landmarks Society of Greater Utica is giving a thumbs down to Mohawk Valley Health System's downtown Utica hospital.

The group wants the new hospital to be located at the board approved St. Luke's Campus.

Landmarks Society Vice President Mike Bosak says it's come to their attention that the downtown hospital foot print will save too little of the Columbia-Lafayette Street neighborhood.

Bosak says while there are many vacant buildings in the area, at least 20 buldings are occupied.

He says many of the property owners are now getting their appraisals, which are much lower than they expected, and that could be a problem.

Bosak also says Utica has already lost too many historic and architecturally important buildings.
