Officials at Mohawk Valley Health System are showing off a mock-up medical surgical room for the new downtown Utica hospital.

NBBJ, the architectural firm for the new hospital, created the life-size patient room based on design meetings and the needs of the staff that will work in the rooms providing patient care.

Amanda Sweezey, Nurse Manager of the Neuro-Pediatric Unit at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, says the new rooms are all about efficiency for both patients and staff.

Employees representing the Medical/Surgical units will be going through the layout of the room to determine if it will work to fit the needs of the patient, family and staff in the new hospital

MVHS officials say the final design of the rooms could take up to a year to complete.
