Utica, NY (WIBX) - As same-sex couples across the state celebrate the legalization of their union, court challenges to the new law are starting to take shape. The group, New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms are filing papers in the Livingston County Supreme Court today, contending that the process that led to the legalization of gay-marriages violated many laws.

Rev. Jason J. McGuire is one of the plaintiffs listed on the lawsuit. He said, "We believe that certainly some senate rules were violated, changed at the last minute, and very likely there could be some statute violations as well that the court will be looking at that aided this legislation passing and violated the open and deliberative process." The plaintiffs, which also include Rev. Duane R. Motley and Rabbi Nathaniel S. Leiter, are represented by Liberty Counsel.

In a released statement, McGuire said, "It is unfortunate that state senators chose to protect their personal interests, rather than the people they were elected to represent. Some of the players may have changed, but it looks like same old Albany game. It is time the curtain be pulled back and the disinfecting light of good government shine upon the Cuomo Administration and our State Legislature."
