Politicians Tour Flash Food Damage in Broome and Tioga Counties
Congresswoman Claudia Tenney agrees that something has to be done about chronic flooding in the area that is only getting worse as local governments are hobbled by costs and government restrictions from dealing with waterway infrastructure changes that could fix the problem.
The Republican along with local and New York State government officials made stops in Broome and Tioga Counties to visit some of the hardest hit areas in the July 24 flash flooding.
Some residents said they had been repeatedly flooded, incurring thousands of dollars in repair costs as tributaries like Choconut Creek continue to flood and erode their banks. Some residents say they are ready to abandon their homes.
