Ryan Callahan scored on a tough-angle shot in the first period and Marion Gaborik found the back of the net in the second helping the Rangers to a 4-2 victory over the Senators in an NHL opening round best-of-7 series.
Brian Boyle and Brad Richards scored as well, as New York built a 4-0 lead.
Ottawa's Daniel Alfredsson and Erik Condra scored late goals against Henrik Lundqvist, who stopped 30 of the 32 shots he faced.
The Rangers host Game 2 on Saturday night at 7:00.
